Amazing achievement for 16 year old

This week we received news that 16 year old Emily Watson-Breeze is playing the Finzi Clarinet Concerto with Harrogate Philharmonic Orchestra at 7.30pm on Saturday 15th at The Galtres Centre, Easingwold, North Yorkshire and at 3.30pm on Sunday 16th October in Constance Green Hall, Harrogate. For the past two years she has been a pupil at Chethams School of Music. She has been given this wonderful opportunity however as a result of winning the ‘Concerto class’ at the Harrogate Competitive Festival for Music, Speech and Drama earlier in the year. Having been allowed to suggest a concerto she would like to play, Emily had no hesitation in choosing this piece which she absolutely adores. It’s also fitting as Gerald Finzi lived in Harrogate as a child and young man and had a connection with York Minster, where Emily was a chorister for five years.
Says her mother, Barbara Watson “This will be the first time Emily has played a full concerto with orchestra and she is feeling a combination of excitement and anxiety. Most of all she feels privileged to play such a wonderful piece”.
