String-driven thing
String arrangements of Finzi's Magnificat and Welcome, Sweet & Sacred Feast will be featured in a concert by the Southbank Sinfonia Ensemble at the English Music Festival.
The arrangement of the Magnificat is the work of Denis Williams, while Welcome, Sweet & Sacred Feast has been arranged by Peter Hayward. The latter was commissioned by the Southbank Sinfonia in 2005 and has been warmly welcomed by the Finzi Trust. It is expected to be published by Boosey & Hawkes later this year.
The programme also features Finzi's Romance, Vaughan Williams' Concerto Accademico and Lord, Thou Hast Been Our Refuge, and Elgar's evergreen Serenade for Strings.
The concert takes place in All Saints church in the Oxfordshire village of Sutton Courtenay on May 24, starting at 2.30pm. It will be conducted by Michael Berman. For more information, visit the festival's web site.
