A very English weekend

Quintessentially English isn't a bad stab at describing Finzi's music in a couple of words and it's also the title of a concert which includes his Eclogue for Piano and Strings.

The concert is on June 7 at St Mary's church, Ketton, nr Stamford, in the lovely English shire of Rutland.

The soloist in the Finzi is Margaret Fingerhut. She is accompanied by the Cantus Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Barry Collett.

The programme also features The Lark Ascending by Vaughan Williams - Isabelle Flory is the violin soloist - and Elgar's Serenade for Strings and Purcell's Chaconne for Strings in G Minor. The concert begins at 7.30pm.

Quintessentially English forms half of a two-concert weekend celebrating music by English composers. It's followed by a choral concert on Sunday at the same venue, this time starting at 8pm.

Tickets are priced at £8 each or £12 for both concert. Under-16s are admitted free. Tickets are available from +44 (0) 1780 721015 or on the door.
