Spicer's summer selection
Finzi Trust member Paul Spicer includes White-flowering days, Op 37, in a concert entitled A Summer Sanctuary, bringing together sacred and secular music by some of the 20th century's greatest composers.
Paul conducts the Birmingham Bach Choir, with Michael Higgins at the organ, on Saturday, June 7, at Great Malvern Priory, Malvern, UK.
As well as the Finzi piece the concert, which begins at 7.30pm, includes works by Vaughan Williams, Britten, Holst and Elgar.
Vaughan Williams is represented by The Turtle Dove, Lord thou hast been our refuge, Linden Lea and the Three Shakespeare Songs.
The Britten offering extends the flower theme, in the form of Five Flower Songs, Op 47.
The music of Gustav Holst is represented by I Love My Love (from Six Choral Folksongs, Op 36b) and the Ave Maria, Op 9b.
The Elgar works are The Shower (Op 71 No 1), The Fountain (Op 71 No 2), Love's Tempest (Op 73 No 1) and Serenade (Op 73 No 2).
