Finzi Composer of the Week

Gerald Finzi was BBC Radio 3's Composer of the Week in the week commencing on Monday, September 25th.

Presented by Donald Macleod, Monday's programme featured Who Am I? from A Young Man's Exhortation, the Magnificat, the Concerto for Violin and Small Orchestra and In Terra Pax.

Tuesday's offering featured the solo songs Cats and Apples and As I Lay in the Early Sun; the part song I Praise the Tender Flower, A Severn Rhapsody and Intimations of Immortality.

Channel Firing, Romance for Strings, Let Us Garlands Bring, excerpts from Love's Labours Lost and Lo, the Full Final Sacrifice were played in Wednesday's programme.

Thursday brought On Second Thoughts, Eclogue, the Five Bagatelles for clarinet and piano, the Cello Concerto and Shortening Days from A Young Man's Exhortation.

The final programme in the series on Friday featured Forever Green and The Sigh from A Young Man's Exhortation, Nocturne (New Year Music), Welcome Sweet and Sacred Feat, Dies Natalis and The Too Short Time, from Before and After Summer).
