An Autumnal Entertainment in the Canterbury Festival 2009, consisting of two well-known cycles of songs to poems by Thomas Hardy – Benjamin Britten's 'Winter Words' (1953) and Gerald Finzi's' Till Earth Outwears' (ed. 1957). These two works will frame a performance of 'A Hardy Triptych' (1998) by contemporary Kentish composer F L Dunkin Wedd.
These musical offerings will be leavened by readings from Hardy's poetry and prose, together with some biographical vignettes of the great Wessex man of letters. The reader will be the young actress Violet Ryder, who also appeared in the successful Duo Recital 'From Lamplight to Limelight' which Philip Eve and Renée Salewski gave in the 2007 Canterbury Festival.
