Letter from America

We were delighted to receive this seasonal message from from Daniel James Shigo in New York. ‘Hello, I had the immense pleasure of singing the baritone solos in Finzi’s “In Terra Pax” with the choir of Christ Church, New Brunswick, NJ, this past Sunday for the first time, having heard this work more than 20 years ago at Hunter College here in New York. Being totally smitten, it was a dream of mine to perform it, which finally took place when my colleague, John Sheridan — the organist and choirmaster at Christ Church — asked me sing with him out of the blue about six weeks ago. John used the chamber version of the work, which started the program, and the hush of the audience was palpable from the start. The choir sang beautifully, as did the radiant Shannon Elizabeth Caldwell. I cannot tell you how much this work has meant to me, along with Finzi’s “Eclogue” which I constantly tell students and colleagues about. Both represent for me the highest form of music.’
Thank you Daniel!
